Boardwalk, Hirtle's Beach, N.S.
Watercolour, 10" X 14"
This painting is actually two views of
a boardwalk which accesses Hirtle's Beach, about 25 min. southwest of Lunenburg.
Funds for the construction of the boardwalk were raised in the community
and each of the planks has the name of a donor carved into it. The
boardwalk was built to protect the sand dunes between the parking lot and
the beach. One view shows the boardwalk with the Atlantic Ocean behind,
with an island (whose name I forget) in the background. The other
is a close-up view examining the simple structure of the boardwalk, and
the subtle variations in colour created by the sun and shade.
