Stone Implements -- 6,000 Years of Occupation in Northeastern
New Brunswick.
A small proportion of implements recovered from archaeological sites along the Tracadie estuary provide important evidence that prehistoric people travelled long distances to acquire and trade desirable materials. Some of the tools shown here consist of a translucent, light grey stone originating from the Ramah Bay region of northern Labrador, a distance of more than 2,500 km over water. A-E Spear points
The same stone is associated with 4,000 to 5,000-year-old burial sites of the Maritime Archaic people as far south as New Jersey. Courtesy: National Museum of Man, National Museums of Canada |
