An Urban Pavillion
Introduction
A pavillion is a freestanding single-storey structure that serves
a specific purpose. Pavillions of the most divers kinds exist. There are garden
pavillions, entrance pavillions, exit pavillions, music pavillions, greenhouse
pavillions, look-out pavillions(belvederes and planetariums), educational
pavillions, hospital pavillions, market pavillions...the list goes on. In
fact almost any freestanding single storey structure can be called a pavillion.
World Exhibitions have historically been great opportunities for architectural
and structural pavillion experimentation because most exhibition structures
are single storey and exhibition structures are showcases for the nations
that design and build them. Look at the Crystal Palace of 1851.

The design problem
In this design studio we will design a variant of the pavillion type. instead
of being a structure in an open park setting, as the majority of pavllions
are, we will use as a setting a very urban site,
