THE WORD

The first Revelation asked of the Prophet Mohammad to "Read". This set into motion the desire for his followers to learn as he did, word by word, the entire Revelation. The words that were simply memorized and passed on from one person to the other were later recorded as manuscripts and books (the Quran). Recording the "Word" has also taken on other forms as well. In art, it became a form of spiritual and ornamental exploration in the form of calligraphy. In architecture, recording the "Word" meant to literally inscribe it into stone and incorporate it into architectural elements.
