Islam shares with other monotheistic religions the belief in one God. Unity is central to the religion. If unity is reserved to the Divine then as a result everything in creation must be dual. Ideas of duality within things are of great interest, if there is light then there must be dark as well, the male and the female, positive space versus negative space. The "shahada" is the principle statement that declares the unity/duality model as a driving force of the religion. The challenge is to perhaps create a space that can incorporate this model into its essence.
