glass

glass...a solid and a liquid...the goal to break the glass, intentionally, along the desired line. Score the glass with the glass cutter. In this case the glass is slightly textured and therefore the glass must be scored along the smooth surface-touch-this will make the scored line smoother. The glass is them banged with the other end of the glass cutter. At first I forgot the sensitivity of the material and hit it to hard. The glass began to break in a line other than the one I scored. You must be gentle. I tried again, scored, began to tap...this time more gently. Careful taps evenly along the line. Slowly the glass begins to split. I can see the crack-sight-I can hear the glass pop-hearing-with each tap the sound changes from a bang to a pop begins to sound almost hollow. Finally the glass breaks, cleanly along the line I scored. Each piece of glass is then wrapped in copper foil, slowly and methodically, there must be even amounts of foil folded over. This foil is what the lead solder will adhere to. Once the pieces are wrapped they are placed together in the desired composition. Flux is spread evenly over the seams. Too much and the solder will bubble. The soldering iron melts the lead solder. The flux allows it to spread evenly over the surface of the copper. Dragging the soldering iron slowly and evenly over the seam to produce a consistent line.
