The polarizing sheet lets through only one angle of incident light. The images at the left show two filters in front of each other, when rotated, they let through different direction wavelengths of light. Many of the effects of the filter are visual experiences that cannot be recorded adequately on film. When you hold the filter up to a clear spot of sky and turn it lightly you begin to see yellow spots, our eyes begin to see the polarization of the sky. The filters are also capable of changing the reflections that you see in a pane of glass.

Here the polarization comes into play in a piece called Light is the Information Highway of the Universe. The Plastic cup is placed between two polarizing sheets. When light passes through the layers the cup becomes filled with colours. This phenomenon comes from the tensions existing in the plastic...if a pane of glass produces the same effect there is a defect in the glass.
