| Gary Reddick, a principal at Portland and Seattle based Sienna Architecture, encourages owners of existing properties to sell their air rights for development. In this way, cities such as Portland have been able to densify within the existing urban growth boundaries while simultaneously providing an additional source of income and customer stream to the properties below. Some of his unconventional endeavours include buying air rights above a grocery store and a downtown parking lot for the placement of apartments.
