clackamas town center [peter calthorpe & associates]

7 previous

description In his proposal for a multifunctional Clackamas Town Center, architect/urbanist Peter Calthorpe proposes transforming the parking lot around an existing shopping mall into several city blocks, the size of those found in downtown Portland. The result would be the creation of an urban scheme that would better support a variety of different building types and programs that would also create a better defined pedestrian-oriented environment. Calthorpe also realizes that the existing road that seperates the enclosed mall from the strip mall across the street acts as a major barrier. As a result, he proposes to split the traffic onto either side of a green space, a green space which would then, in turn, be occupied by various public buildings, including a theatre, transit stop, and community centre.
