Post Modernisation 1
Nowdays, the trend is to go back to the idea that children's health is a family affair. The architecture should be able to express what's hapening inside the building. There is a belief that children's hospitals should ahve animated, distracting and colorful environments. Health is slowing turning to the principles of family-centered care and the children should feel like they are at home.
Montreal now faces a new dilema. Some people are objecting the current situation of decentralization over a more centralized facility, a superhospital. For example, mothers now deliver babies at the RVH, however, if there are some complications witht he infant, he has to be sent to the MCH and the family is then separated. In a superhospital, where all the services would be reunited, once again, the families would not have to be split anymore.
Superhospitals:
McGill University wants to create one centre where the MCH, the RVH and the MGH would be reunited on the same site. Montreal University is also studying a similar project, but Ste-Justine has refused to be part of the new administration. There are a lot of debates now with the Montreal Children's Hospital because there are fears that the children would loose their specific child-oriented facilities and architectural facilities. As a proposed solution, there has been recommendations of a separate yet attached model.
