According to the statistics done by Ville de Montréal in 2001, the population in the borough Ville-Marie was 74 832 inhabitants. The population went up by 5 578 between 1991 and 2001, an 8.1% increase in ten years. It was one of the largest growths of the 27 boroughs during the period of 1996-2001. Ville Marie has a concentration of relatively young population: 20-34 years old has the highest rate of 35.5%. The group with 65 and older becomes the second highest percentage of the overall population in Ville Marie: 14.4%. This statistic explains the phenomena of the household status in this borough.

There are in total 41 580 households in Ville Marie, 55% (the highest rate) is household with only one person, and 6% is constituted by people with 65 years old and more who lives alone. Most of the housing development in Ville Marie is done in the years before 1946 and between 1981-1990. Its housing value is relatively high comparing to the rest of the island of Montreal . It is $209 985, which is around 1/3 higher than the average value in Montreal : $176 344.

Most of the population in Ville Marie is Francophone: 57%, only 17% is Anglophone. When examining the language spoken at home, it shows that 67% speaks French, 21% uses English, and 12% speaks other languages, where Chinese is the most popular. However, 61% of inhabitants in Ville Marie are bilingual, only 24% only knows French, and 13% only knows English. The visible minorities count for 23% of the population in Ville Marie, where the majority is Chinese and Arabic: 13% for both.
