As in Berlin , Stalin era in Russia was followed with some projects that envisioned monumental buildings that would dominate over everything else surrounding them. Unrealized project for the 'palace of the soviets' was one of them, and it was designed to be nothing less than the largest building it the world. Lenin mausoleum was one of the built projects to commemorate the great leader. The first temporary wooden construction was built right after Lenin’s death in 1924, near the Senate Tower of the Kremlin in Red Square . This building was a truncated step-like pyramid with two L-like structures with staircases adjoining it at two sides. It was replaced by permanent stone building in 1930.
