Tombstones & Shadows

Cemetery and even more tombstones and graves always fascinated me. We definitively must view mortuary sites as part of the whole landscape, as well as aspects of the culture and society. One very interesting thing is the change in shape, size and material of the tombstone. It is all about the social aspect, historic and architecture of time. The transition from wooden structures to stone is an excellent example of an effort to extend the memory and power of the dead.

I look closer at the shadows that tombstones make with the mix of trees shadows, traces of human activity…

The cemetery was so quiet and the shadows so impressively well printed on the snow, it was really like if somebody was telling me a story without words.
