Concordia Student Union Building

This project evolved from a formal exercise. An effect of distortion and parallaxes is obtained by placing at angles four planes composed of parallel lines. As the project went on, the planes evolved as four glazed walls covered with sun-breaks. These elements define the whole organization of space and aesthetic ef the building.
The strong directionality of those walls matches the inherent movement of the triangular site at the corner of Maisonneuve and Guy. The continuous flow of students and cars enhance its wedge quality. It is a place of criss-crossing and meetings suitable for a student union. This quality is kept in the interior
arrangement of spaces in order to favour constant communication for the various student organisations it houses.
