Repetition of geometric elements : In the San Marcuola, Concordia and Canadian Museum for Human Right (CMHR) projects, I used the repetition of geometric elements as my main planning principle. This method permits to establish within the project a set of rules that can be played with or consciously transgressed. As an example, in the San Marcuola project, the vertical posts forming the walls are placed at varying distances. This influences the quantity if light entering different parts of the building. Each room therefore has its own quality while being part of a whole. Those geometrical elements tend to become metaphors for more abstract ideas such as different perceptions of human rights or the convergence of ideas. Because of this phenomenon, the building becomes a world on its own with its own logic. |
