Until today the facade of San Marcuola Church, in Venice, was left unfinished. The new parish centre is conceived to create contemporary looking façade to the building while providing space for a reception hall and a kindergarten. Since the church overlooks one of the few sunny plazas of the city, light has been used as the main planning principle. The centre is build out of vertical posts placed at various distances following a spiral plan. Their role is to modulate the light that comes in. The innermost part of the spiral culminates into an observation tower, hence providing the church with a tower.
