Place Jacques-Cartier

Place Jacques-Cartier has a diverse history and has been the site of various uses, ranging from an outdoor market to a parking lot.  Although an important and popular square in Old Montreal, it is also manipulated by the seasons.  As in most of the area, the harsh Montreal winters render it empty and bleak.  This is a huge contrast to the summer conditions, when Place Jacques-Cartier is animated with street performers, vendors, and visitors.
