The Jewish Museum in San Francisco
Daniel Libeskind

Situated in Yerba Buena Development, to be completed in 2005.

“The building is dedicated to life, and that's the quintessential Jewish aspect of the building's program," Libeskind said. ``It's about life, it's not about the past, it's not about the future. It's about everything -- ethics, art, imagination, the Jewish sensibility. The chai has always been the lucky emblem of the Jewish people. It's been a deeply symbolic element in Jewish tradition for a millennia."

The goal is to create a vibrant center where one can look at the way Jewish ideas and culture are in constant conversation with the way people live their lives.

The building also seeks to contribute a powerful new structure, traversing the substation, to the exciting Yerba Buena development.

Libeskind hopes that the discovery of the richness of Jewish culture will “become an enduring magnet offering the public the opportunity to share a universal heritage.”
