This is basically a literal translation of the image of the internet as a web of communication lines.
The text adventure game was one of the early recreational uses of the computer, and consisted of several files interconnected in a database to simulate a cave system. While the settings may have changed since then, the concept of arranging locations in the form of an interconnected database has not changed in the text adventure genre. Nor has the method of mapping these games.
The idea here is to set up the physical location to mirror the database concept behind the locations in text adventures. Each location would be clearly read as a single, whole entity, separate from the next no matter how easy or how wide the access. Connections or access routes would be clearly defined and efficient.
