Sketchbook

Part of the imagery of the internet is that of entities floating in space, connected only by communication lines. They are, in a sense, disconnected from the earth; this gives them a highly rarified, ascetic image.

One way of recreating this image is to use water to suggest the disconnection from the earth. The other advantage is the reflectivity of the water, which may also suggest a great distance extending downwards as well as upwards. This takes away the ground as the bottom-most limit of the building's reality, and helps it to appear to float in space.
