Outer Circle Products Offices

These offices are located on the north branch of Chicago River, the facility includes a new shipping and receiving center and the adaptive reconstruction of two contiguous masonry and heavy timber structures used for office and factory space.

The new facade is made from the same raw steel and cast glass used in the surrounding buildings in reference to the history of Chicago's industrial building materials.
The main concept in designing this building was creating an environment that challenged people, encouraged interaction, and fostered change and evolution. The concept involved breaking down the hierarchy and subsequent barriers that typically exist between labor and management divisions.

Employee experience and perception was critical to the success of the design. Six departments on two levels were organized as 'neighborhoods' to reflect a sense of small communities within the company. Workspaces are arranged around four open 'squares,' encouraging spontaneous interaction and meeting. The neighborhoods open to a central, two-story atrium 'town square,' which organizes public functions.
