| - Structure of laminated structural timber
portal frames
(spaced at 5 m intervals) - Clad in aluminium panels (sandwich panels which form the external skin) - Concrete slab on stip foundations - The elimination of the basement reduced construction time and cost; although, the Canadian climate usually requires deep foudations due to frost depths - Adjustable glass louvres emphasize the horizontal flanks of the tube and reduce glare, permitting work on computer screens - On the south side, 54 sqm of a prototype structural glazing with integrated solar collecting panels forms part of the elevation and the energy produced serves all of the building's electrical needs, including a 24- hour lamp testing laboratory in the design studio - Note, the building's form makes it unsuitable for a dense urban setting |
