- Centre's two principal design ideas:
evoke the Kanak skills in building with nature and in nature
to use traditional local materials with modern materials
         wood
         stone
         glass
         aluminium
         lightweight technologies
- Composed of a series of large shells:  each pavilion is from nine to twenty
metres high arranged along a main axis
- The pavilions contain exhibition rooms, an auditorium, and a restaurant
- This is an example of a natural visually tactile design that engages the
imagination with light, air, and natural materials
- Conscious of its insertion into its location both physically and culturally
