The supply of clean unpolluted water is finite. Many countries in
the world are starting to worry about water conservation, because their
resources are being depleted. Installing water efficient plumbing
fixtures in a green building will reduce the load of sewage treatment plants
while helping to protect free flowing rivers. Reduced water use is
also important because much energy is used to move water into homes every
day.
The installation in new buildings of low-flush toilets, efficient showerheads, faucet aerators, and efficient appliances can cut water use by 30%. For example low flush toilets use 1.5 gallons of water while regular toilets use 5. (This section was compiled by Santiago Ramiraz.) |
