Space Framed: Richard Gluckman Architect. New York: The Monacelli Press, 2000.
- this book is a collection of projects(both built and conceptual) designed by architect, richard gluckman. plans, section, photos and concept of the design are included. many of these projects deal with light and views. perhaps some of them are not directly related to my topic, many of them are very interesting and have given me insights to my own project.

Joedicke, Joachim Andreas. Helmut Jahn: Design of a New Architecture. New York: Nichols Publishing Company, 1986.
- architect helmut jahn has built many office buildings. though most of them are high-rise offices(and i am interested in designing a low-rise building), the idea behind his design is one that can be applied to my own project. in the book, he discussed about the importance of designing for the users and incorporating ideas into a more practical situation. i agree with his point of view and concerns and would certainly like to consider these ideas in my design for the office building.

Hohl, Reinhold. Office Buildings. Frederick A. Pragger, Inc.: New York, 1968.
- this book contains illustrations of office buildings and their planning approach in the past. although it might not have a direct impact on my own project, it is quite useful to look at different examples of office buildings and their designs.

" Regarding Some New Ways of Working," Domus 830 (October 2000): 126-148.
- this article talks about the current situation of a workplace. due to the change in technology, the workplace nowadays differs greatly from the offices in the past. the role of an office space has changed from a workspace to a meeting space. workers in different professions have different expectations of what an office should be and the design of a contemporary office is still under development. it is important to understand the new trends in the different professions in order to create spaces that will suit the needs of these changing demands.

Tyng, Alexandra. Beginnings: Louis I. Kahn's Philosophy of Architecture. John Wiley & Sons: New York.
- in this book, there is a chapter titled "Silence and Light". it talks about louis i. kahn's interest in light and shadow and how 'his fascination with light had given rise to his observation that structure actually makes or molds light by taming it into a workable state.' (p. 130) his views on natural light is presented and topics including the colors of light, the play of natural light on structure, and the relationship between them are described. although louis i. kahn is only interested in natural light and not artificial light, this chapter is very inspiring and has confirmed a lot of my own beliefs on the importance of light in architecture.

Frame 17. The International Review of Interior Architecture and Design.(November 2000)
- in this magazine, many of the projects are very interesting. most of them have to do with the lighting design and interiors of a place. as my thesis topic has to do with light and layers and i would like to deal with both the exterior and the interior workspace, some of these articles have provided some good ideas. here are a few articles that i found especially interesting:
"Soft and Floaty" - a fashion boutique in Los Angeles that made use of artificial light of different colors to enhance the display of their product.(p. 16)
"Immaterialism" - an article about steven holl's housing project in Amsterdam. he made use of perforated materials to introduce light into the interiors of the building, and to illuminate the outside of the building during night time. his use of materials and light is simple yet very ingenious.(p. 18)
"Cyberspace" - a cyberlounge that made use of a minimal design along with unique lighting ideas to create a 'motivating atmosphere that reveals the sensuous side of technology and encourages employees to take a creative apporoach to their work.'(p. 20)
"Name-Dropping" - a bar in munich re-uses a run down industrial space by simple operation, such as repainting and adding light and graphics to enhance the structure of the space and creates an attractive and comfortable environment for its customers.(p. 22)
"Surface Architecture" - an installation for Frankfurt's Light + Building fair. the designer made use of light, images, sound and temperature to produce different spatial experiences and moods for its viewers.(p. 28)

El Croquis: Steven Holl 1996-1999. V. 93 (1999)
- this book is a collection of projects done by architect, steven holl. detail plans, sections, elevations and photos of each project has been documented and the ideas behind each project is clearly described. his approach on his projects are very inspiring and has been a useful guide in how i should approach my own project.

Canadian Architect (February 2001), p. 20-25.
- the entire issue talks about new workplaces. three buildings are presented: the nortel networks world heardquarters in brampton, ontario/ the mckinsey & company canadian headquarters in the university of toronto campus(this is used as one of my precedents - p. 20-25, by George Thomas Kapelos)/ new office space for a department of public works and government services canada.

The Architectural Review (February 2001)
- the entire issue is about "places of work". articles include government buildings, corporate headquarters, banks and other office buildings. there are two specific articles that i have used as my precedents: "Baltic Trader"(p. 56-58) - the dealing offices of a bank in hamburg, germany & "Bank Balance"(p. 64-67) - a bank in borken, germany.

Baudrillard, Jean. (Translated by James Benedict) The System of Objects. Great Britain: Bath Press, 1996.
- this book is a theoretical view on different types of objects. some of these objects includes "Walls and Daylight", "Lighting" and "A Model Material: Glass". these are quite relevant to the topic I am working on, and some of these theoretical ideas are also useful for the future development of my project.
