Developing the Proposal-1
What is the meaning of a thesis?
A thesis should be a systemic investigation of something that one is greatly
interested in, and something that may have implications of some very in
depth (or even very humble) ideas and discussions about the process of making, the process of architecture. The important thing is to investigate an issue.
Howard David thinks that three components consist a good thesis:
· The selection of the question; understanding what is going on and what is current condition in Montreal in contemporary circumstance.
· Thorough and insightful analysis of the site; how to integrate your building into the site, how to approach the site and what you get from the site.
· Finding a suitable media to explore and develop your design and its process.
What is my interest in this field?
Contemporary constructional tectonic, computer techniques…and current theoretical interest are incorporated in an architecture design.
Is it possible to focus on a small enough segment of the topic to make an operable project?
So, try to the find a specific vehicle and site with proper scale for an idea or hypothesis. I think it is quite rigid to start a project from either a site or a theory. These two factors and other factors should be evaluated and examined at same time back and forth. Final goal shall always be kept in our mind.
Date collection approach?
Precedents, interview, internet, library, visiting…
Do I have a clear statement of the purpose, scope, objectives, procedures, and limitations of the study?
Not yet, all problems will be answered during my working process.
How to use webpage to explore my thesis ideas and my profile of architectural study in McGill
This days, the majority of webpages lack of logic to systematically present author’s ideas. The easiest thing to do is to make a homepage very fancy, and the actual information in the site is almost zero.
