Since the new IT Building for McGill is a current issue the approach to my thesis project's site selection will be a pragmatic one. I will take the site chosen by the University, I will evaluate its complexity, which can be a thesis question generator, see what opportunities are hidden and understand its constrains.
The site is at the edge of the campus, looking at the city on one side and looking into the campus on the other. It is located on University Street in upper McGill campus, between the Strathcona Dentistry Building, the Rutherford Physics Building and the Donner Building. In immediate proximity is the Wong Building. Portion of the site is witnessing the beginning of Prince Arthur street, which leads all the way to St. Denis.
It is a very
challenging site, because there are numerous conditions that need to be
taken very carefully into account such as how the project will relate to
the campus at a smaller scale and to the city at a larger scale, how the
building will relate to its immediate neighboring context, how the building
will connect the professors with the student body for a better learning
and teaching environment.
