thesis site

The site is in the heart of St. Henri, accessible from Rue Notre Dame. It is a triangular site bound by Rue Notre Dame and a band of commercial buildings to the north, railway tracks (Canadian National Railways, CNR) to the south and residential and commercial development to the east. Peculiarities of the site are the railway tracks and an abandoned tunnel that exists under Rue Notre Dame, leading to CLSC St. Henri accross the street. CNR used to run a railway track through the tunnel in the past.

Site studies: circulation

The Principal Streets of the area are Notre-Dame (the street my site is on), St. Jacques (the street the Metro is on), St. antoine and Atwater.

Site studies: Land use

On the periphery is found industrial use and in the centre is commercial. Residential lies between these two.

Site studies: Parks

Contamination: One place of contamination, as we all know, is tha Lachine Canal. The other is my site. It is filled with Lead, Copper, Zinc, Nickel, Oil and Grease, for the same reason as the Lachine Canal is: yesterday's indusries. This poses a strong challenge for anybody to design an entity on this site. It offers an interestingly tough challenge to me as I'm taking an ecological approach to my sports complex.
