PREMODERNIST TRADITIONS IN ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN - Arts & Crafts

Objective of this project is to decide what modern ideas are valid yet be made aware of the rich possiblilities which exist within the many traditional movements which have been unjustifiably neglected or condemned.

Arts and Crafts styles are not only reflected on decorative ornaments, but also on the exterior profile perceived as a novelty and invention. The site is an essential factor that generated space planning. Clients will demand to keep maximum green space and open-field views towards Ottawa river. Each room will be oriented to have sunlight and views according to its function. Parking entrance should be designed as a feature of the house rather than a hidden opening. Clients would like to have the house to consist of horizontal planes (rock layers) in contrast with deep drop of natural landscape. The house should be integrated as part of nature. Indoor working space such as studio, music room and library is where that the client spend most of the time in everyday. Studios should be off from main street to avoid traffic noise. While maximum natural lighting is provided in working areas, privacy should also be maintained. It is required that studios can be separated from living space for the convenience of having conferences with clients without disturbing the household at the same time. Each room should have access to green gardens
