DESIGN model home to mark the turn of the century intended to satisfy current trends in urban life: non-traditional family structures, working parents, shared daycare, work/live situations, telecommuting, smart technologies, flexibility, energy efficiency, ... & SITE located on the astern edge of the McGill campus, on University street just above Milton (currently a parking lot) As with much of Montreal's housing, my proposal includes two units within the same structure. The first unit comprises the ground and second floor, while the second unit is an elegant penthouse on the third floor. The open plan with movable walls is intended to promote growth and change. The walls can be lowered/raised on rails to form smaller/larger spaces at will. The building's base references typical row housing in Montreal, but is more European in nature with ample fenestration on the top floor. The building mass reveals the rich voids formed by the alternating balconies on each floor that provide shelter and shade inside and out. A retreat from the ever changing busy city life. Top
