DESIGN community services and health-care facility to be integrated into the master plan for a new park & SITE two triangular parcels of land formed by the diagonal basin just below the St. Gabriel locks
Movement is key to the site’s revitalization. Bringing the public through the site, into the buildings along a series of paths. The bike path contrasting the straight-line nature of the site carefully crosses elements of the program, in so doing tying them together. A system of axes, perpendicular to the basin, generates the language of all built-designed forms. The coexistence of the street grid and basin are marked off at the entrance off Des Seigneurs Street, while a promenade along the canal references the linear nature of the locks. The aforementioned system of axes is a reminder of the previous storage use of the site in a two and three-dimensional manner. The piling of goods in an organized fashion provides precedent for the community and rehabilitation centers in particular. Public-park space, which is more open such as basketball and tennis courts, also tie into the vertical axis of the site and the views developed by the core element, the winding path. Top Next
