Celebrating water

Water, in all its illusiveness, is one of the most enigmatic elements perceptible by our senses. To fathom the absence of water, while being conceptually possible, is reallistically impossible. The very material quality of our environment assures water its prominent place alongside that of the object, the form, the architecture.

The water folly shelters against the rain, yet enhances the experience of rainfall. The metal roof accentuates the sound of each raindrop, and holds back from the wood wall to let water cascade into the shelter. The metal plate will rust with time, stain the wood and record the passing of the seasons. The narrow vertical opening lets the viewer observe the phenomenon of landscape immersed in water.
In the winter months, rain turns to snow, and ice hangs where rain used to cascade. Everything is frozen, silent.
