hello
There are two main requirements for the library: the book stacks and the reading areas.  Many library experts stress that these spaces should be flexible.  That the design of the library should make it possible for stacks and reading spaces to be interchanged.  This however generally leads to bland spaces which are not best suited to either reading or storage.
While a variety of study spaces are required the GBQ will contain atleast one large reading room.  Such a large room requires a high ceiling, natural light, and richer finishes.  In contrast the stacks may be accomodated in areas with low ceilings, artificial light, and on floors capable of carrying large loads.

These differing requirements lead the reading room to be a large volume which sits next to two stories of stacks.  These mezzanine stacks must not be isolated from reading spaces.  It is necessary that reading spaces be provided on the same level as these stacks as vertical movement of books with in a library is always a problem.
