| In addition to the vertical schism of the fast and the slow, the Autoroute splits Old Montreal into two halves: the predominantly commercial district to the east including the fast developing Cite Multimedia, and the more bleakly industrial and dilapitated district to the west, dotted with junkyards and metal yards. While the location of the Autoroute is undoubtedly central, its profound slice through the space of the city has rendered it peripheral to two now distinct neighbourhoods. | ||
