Architectural
Issues
In combining the programs of a studio and a house for a cabinet maker,
I am interested the relationship of work and home life and adopting a
traditional approach that connects the two. My intention is that the studio
also acts as a gallery and showroom that would allow public interaction
and connection with the craft of objects. Using cabinet making as a source
of inspiration, I would like to focus my attention on the craft of architecture,
considering both the physical and psychological environment and its capability
to seduce us.
General Issues Regarding
Studio (from
Fine Woodworking)
Should be on ground floor to facilitate installation of heavy machinery
and delivery of boards and timber
Natural light from north is best, should also use task lighting
Ceilings should be high, preferably at least 9 feet
A wooden floor is much easier on the feet and on the work
Leave sufficient space around machines for working
Problems include dust and noise pollut ion
