The striation of space, the superimposition of grid systems, which is essential to the creation of city planning and architecture, is clearly exemplified in New York City and specifically in the Times Square area where the seemingly haphazard imposition of Broadway renders it its unique shape. This forms the geometry of the immediate physical environment.

The immediate context talks of the imposition of experiential strata. Amidst the incessant stamping of feet and relentless activities that animate Times Square, not to mention the everpresent chaotic array of fragmented media that overwhelms the eye and saturates the experience many fold, the attempt here is to slow the foot, calm the eye, and relax the mind.

The proposed tkts booth stands neutral, contrasting its busy immediate milieu. One approaches it by joining a queue defined by a path located along Broadway on the west side of Father Duffy Square, and which is marked by a line of seating. The urban design calls for a reduction of the existing fenced area to a 5' radius from Father Duffy Statue. While maintaining a clear delineation around it, this proposal is to encourage people to inhabit Father Duffy's existing steps and bench, and allow for encounter and animation at the human scale.
