The tradition of civic buildings in architecture has appeared in the form of the classical style. The civilized regions once thought that this style, originating from the Greeks, exemplified the basis of their political system – democracy. This form of government was also introduced by the Greeks. " Democracy promotes what the citizen wants and needs to live a full life…the attributes of such a life are justice, goodness, truth and beauty " (Melzer,76).   It was thought that by absorbing the architecture of the Greeks, a country would reflect the common ideals. This occurred worldwide as colonies were acquired and the style traveled. With time, civic architecture has been re-shaped and changed. A re-consideration of the definition of democracy, with the rise and fall of the modernist movement, has lead to many varied architectural expressions. The underlying theme being maintained that civic institutions must reflect or represent the populace that it serves to be truly democratic. Democracy is thus also being true to oneself and one’s kind.
