Survey of the West Indies
Most courthouses throughout the West Indies have been the
sites of uprisings (slave rebellions, demonstrations against proposed legislative bills)
at one point or another in the history of the island that it served. The forms they
took were
modeled upon the courthouses of the European country which ruled the island at the time of
construction of the courthouse.
The most prevailing style is that of the British Neoclassical. In a few areas, reference
can be seen to Spanish models.
These are a few existing courthouses in Jamaica.
