What Is Ventilation?
Natural Ventilation
Natural ventilation takes into account the environmentıs existing wind forces and attempts to utilize them by channeling them effectively through specific openings in the built facade.

ConsiderationsŠ
Exterior Environment              Interior Environment
-Prevailing winds     -Cross ventilation
-Orientation of building on the site     -Stack ventilation
-Shape of building     -Atrium ventilation
-Planting around the building     -Pre-heating
-Relationship to other buildings            -Radiant heating
-Windward and leeward sides     -Windows
    -Air quality

Exterior Environment
AIRFLOW
Winds circulate from warm low latitudes to cold high latitudes.
Winds blow from high to low pressure regions
Winds usually flow east-west rather than north-south

Windward & Leeward Sides
Wind will enter from the windward side and exit out the leeward side.

Hybrid Facade

Buffer Facades
Oldest double skin facade-has been in use for nearly 100 years
Two layers of glazing mounted ~250mm-750mm apart
Developed before insulating glazing was invented to increase sound and heat insulation without reducing daylight.

Extract Air Facade
Used where natural ventilation is not possible.
Main double-glazed skin of insulation glass with a second single-glazed skin placed inside the air space
The Œusedı air in the air space is extracted with fans meanwhile tempering the inner layer while the outer layer of insulating glass minimizes heat transmission loss.

Twin-Face Facade
Internal skin used for insulation which minimizes heat loss.
Interior facade windows can be opened while exterior facade ventilation openings moderate temperature extremes inside the facade.
Use of windows allows night time cooling of interior.
