~ Relatively large: 1750 Quebec city population was 8,000, Montreal less than 4,000. Same time Boston was more than 15,000, Philadelphia and New York 14,000 and Charleston 12,000

Institutions such as town hall and markets that functioned as community meeting places such as the Faneuil Hall (1742) named after its founder Peter Fanueil were established. Original burnt in 1761, what we see is Bullfinch's expanded design.

Idea for the Erie Canal discussed as far back as 1699, good part of it was was completed only in 1792. Full link between NY and the Great Lakes was used in 1825.
