Aesthetics, technology and choice have all contributed to creating a unique moviegoing experience in the Paramount.  The nature of this experience is very much a blend of the new and the old.  There is another perspective to the Paramount which can be seen in the duality of suburban and urban experiences.Unlike its predecessor, the megaplex introduces newer elements of food and entertainment.  Patrons can chose from a variety of traditional and branded food items such as

and Café des Etoiles. (Fig 5.1)  In addition, there is a 1,500 square foot TechTown gaming centre featuring the latest interactive games for children and youths (Fig 5.2) These amenities  are gradually redefining the moviegoing experience as a one-stop source of entertainment in the city.“We wanted to create something that would make people come to the theatre and stay longer” states Dennis Kucherway, public relations for Famous Players.[31] Similar megaplexes across Canada have met with some success. For example an article reported on typical evening spent by a group of teenagers at the Colossus in Vaughan, Ontario.

The flick Stephanie Reale and her four friends saw was "boring," she says, but they were still having a great Saturday night at Colossus. "Honestly, I love it here__we come more for the place than the movie," says Reale, 15, whose parents drop her off long before show time so she can hang out with her boyfriend, Mike Lofaso, gossip with her girlfriends and play video games. These are activities she would normally do at the mall, but finds more appealing at the megaplex. Reale and most of her friends have part_time or summer jobs that help cover the approximately $25 it costs for one night__ticket, food and video games__at the Colossus.”[32]

This integrated entertainment experience can be seen as suburban since it provides a new, clean and controlled environment where patrons are encouraged to spend and consume. Geoff Pevere a pop culture journalist described it as the shopping mall of movie theatres shorn of non-cinematic distractions: "It's the total movie environment, a place where everything you eat, breath and dream (not to mention spend) is made posssible by the medium of the movies." [33]  Undeniably, the shopping mall is in many ways a suburban phenomenon.
